Denpasar Market

Ahhhhh!  peoples I have a rotten headache and snotty/blocked nose, I think after yesterdays adventure to the Denpasar markets my nose has just gone on strike, so  many heady rich full on smells and claustrophobic passageways, its dark and very very exotic and foreign, I thought I had 'culture shock' when I first arrived, no no no I have now, I had to keep going out for fresh air, sit down, had a near hypo (low bsl) from hell.  It was almost assaulting all the people and the foods, spices, beads, art and craft and so many different things to see, my neck is sore from my eyes just swinging in my head, looking side to side (we call this 'rubber necking'), not trying to miss anything, my brain went into overload/melt down and has just shut down, had to get out and taxi home asap. Try to re centre myself, now I know why people meditate, go to spas, do yoga and massage here. Its so heady and intense!

Its really hard to explain the place,  that stepping away from the western tourist track, and into the life of a different culture is heady and you just get swept up in it!  I didnt see one Aussie/western face there and was just immersed in the Balinese culture and people and custom, luckily I met this one woman, so sweet, I started chatting to her at a fabric shop, she spoke perfect English and she decided there and then that I was 'her' friend.  So she became my guide for the morning and showed me around, introduced me to all her friends (like a million of them) and gave me the story of the market, explained the spices, fruits and ceremonial offering things there (see other pics posted soon) The market is beyond massive and with out her  I would be still lost in the maze of shops.

Posting some pictures now!

  1. You have a great way of expressing the things you see and feel.
