The difference between a real 'batik' sarong and the cheap copies. This is my 'sister' that adopted me at the Denpasar market and the 'real' sarong being held by the very very shy shop assistant. Theres also a pic of my friends real life sisters shop, she has all the bright colours for the tourist, the balines women never wear 'bright' in their traditional sarongs. Im hoping to find a matching 'Janwha' (spelling???) the lace traditional top soon, Of course I'ss add a pic! I was quite an oddity walking thro the lil shops/stalls and everyone gathered and smiled for my camera, I never saw a western face the whole time I was there, my 'sister' was showing me off to all her friends (she knew everyone) like I was her pet. I bought some beaded bracelets for gifts back home and gave her one $2 each, she put it on, nearly wept and then every time we went past some more girls she held her wrist up saying 'this is from my friend, this is my Australian sister, she buy me this!!!!' he he he eh I just loved it of course. So theres a fe more pics of the stalls, the ceremonial gold and ornate 'offerings in their ceremonies, and did embarrass myself a few times put them on my head thinking they are hats! We had a traditional Balinese lunch there, (see the pics) the Muslim lady got really upset, I couldnt understand, she would take no money, apparently (my new sister telling me) because I didn't eat the veggies (the green bok choy or choy sum) not the rice she thought I did not like her cooking.....So the lunch was $1 and I tried to get her to take 2$ but nooooo, so had to get my 'sister' to explain that I was diabetic and can no eat the rice, after a lot of explaining the lil Muslim lady accepted my money....I was really moved by her, by her refusal of the money when you'd expect some peoples to just grab the money, with I don't give a dam attitude
. I tell you Im just loving it here (even with my snotty nose and headache and fluctuating bsl's) it is a wonderful place.
